Session 1: Brain Overview
This session introduces the brain as the control center of the body, responsible for movement, sensation, memory, breathing, and emotions. Students explore its structure (including the two hemispheres), neurons, electricity, and the need for protection via the skull.
Session 2: Memory
Students learn about different types of memory (sensory, short-term, working, and long-term), the role of the hippocampus, and why some memories stick while others fade.
Session 3: Dreams
This session dives into sleep science—why we sleep, what REM sleep is, and the role of dreams in memory and emotional health. It covers lucid dreaming, sleepwalking, and how stimuli can affect dreams.
Session 4: Brain & Pain
Students learn how pain is processed by the brain through nociceptors and neurons, and how it can be influenced by psychological and genetic factors. Topics include pain-related disorders like hyperalgesia and CIPA, food’s impact on pain, and animals' ability (or inability) to feel pain.
Session 5: Habits & Reward Pathways
This session explains how habits are formed and reinforced through neural pathways and reward systems, especially the role of dopamine. Students explore the 21-day rule, how to break or replace bad habits, and the concept of reward deficiency.
Session 6: Human Brains vs Other Brains
Students compare the human brain’s hemispheres, lobes, and capabilities with those of other people, computers, and animals. Topics include differences in male vs. female brains, animal intelligence, and supercomputers vs. human reasoning.
