This session explains how vaccines train the immune system using weakened or dead pathogens. Students learn about vaccine schedules, herd immunity, and how vaccines eliminated diseases like smallpox and controlled others like polio. It also covers flu vaccines, myths, and future advancements like edible vaccines.
Session 4: Weird Diseases
Students explore extremely rare diseases that affect appearance, senses, or lifestyle. The session fosters empathy while teaching about genetics, skin pigmentation, and the importance of inclusion and kindness.
Session 5: Mental Illnesses
This session focuses on the brain and how mental disorders like OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and rare conditions arise. It emphasizes the link between genetics and mental health, promoting inclusion and support for those affected.
Session 6: Gene Therapy
Students explore gene therapy as a powerful tool to treat genetic diseases. They learn about CRISPR, virus vectors, and how gene editing can fix conditions like cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, and muscular dystrophy. The session ends with exciting future possibilities like disease-free living and designer genes.
